Turning 19
Photographs taken soon after my 19th birthday –> turned into digital drawings.
birthday melancholy is something that me and I believe also other people are very familiar with. In the initial photos I wanted to capture the feelings of emptiness that come with this celebration. For me it often feels like parts of my soul are slowly vanishing away in the smoke from burning birthday candles or disappearing just like the life fading away from the slowly withering flower petals.
Tangled

On the right, a continuation of this concept as a miniature sculpture, based on the concept of tangled thoughts and skewed self-perception.

The sinner
Contrasting life and death, immortality of sin and mortality of man.
This piece is almost as a time capsule for me which I can now use to remember some thoughts I had while pondering the issues regarding sin and the human condition. In hindsight, i believe that I was inspired by John milton's "Paradise Lost" that I was reading at the time, however, I was not conscious of this connection at the time of making these works. I feel like in the whole Western culture just the word "sin" has gained an incredibly heavy meaning, often accompanied by a lot of shame even out of the religious circles (where the usage of this word would probably be the most relevant). "sin" (including when shedded of its religiously charged meaning) has existed throughout the history of mankind, and I find it interesting how sins in themselves become immortal – crossing over generations that have to carry the burden of those who "sinned" before them, be it family feuds, wars or other injustices. I wanted to challenge the idea of purity and the need of shaming people and defining people by their mistakes, as they are inevitable and will be made by every single one of us.

Digital works (Procreate)
I used this piece as an opportunity to practice my digital art skills – making a digital sketch (shown on the right) before the actual drawing and trying my hand at making a short animation (as seen on the left)
